Mary Amodeo 1913-1913

Mary was the third child of Biagio & Maria Amodeo.

She was born at home (624 Queen St. West, Toronto) on January 20, 1913.

Sadly, she died 50 days later, at home, on March 11, 1913 after three days of suffering with pneumonia.

Oddly there seem to have been TWO children with the name "Mary" or "Maria" in this family.

Obviously there is no real way to explain this, but possibly this is how things evolved:

This first baby "Mary" was born on January 20, 1913

Following the custom of naming the first born daughter after her paternal grandmother (Maria Graziano), they named her "Mary".

In late February/early March of 1913 Maria & Biagio got pregnant again with their fourth child (following Francis 1909, Mariano 1912 & Mary 1913)

However, this first baby "Mary" died on March 13, 1913, only 50 days after her birth

Their fourth child, a girl, was born on December 3, 1913 --10 months & 13 days after the birth of the now deceased "Mary".  This fourth child went on to marry Joseph Battaglia and lived until April 18, 2003.  She was the mother of Antoinette, Marie, Joseph & Roseanne.

For some reason, since their first "Mary" was now deceased, they then chose to name this second girl "Maria".

Maybe the small distinction between "Mary" and "Maria" was a sufficient difference.

And maybe they were still intent on honouring Maria Graziano with a living grand daughter "Mary"
